A Praise and a Prayer

PRAISE: I got the job offer I've been waiting for! I will call them Monday and accept it and will plan to start in late August! This means starting then, I will be in the Indy area! Praise the Lord! :)

PRAYER: Please pray for Matushka Martha. She hurt her knee and is recovering, but it means she has to rest. So we need to pray that she has a speedy recovery and patience until then!

Committee Meeting

We will have the first overall Orthodox Young Adults of Indiana committee meeting after the canoe trip and lunch on July 2. Weather permitting, we will have it outside at the same place as our picnic! I just wanted to reiterate what this committee is about. I sent this out as an e-mail, but just as a reminder:

"Everyone reading this is a "member" of this "organization" of OYA. The committee will be sort of an executive board - the people that plan the events for the members. Those on the committee would be those committed to go to (hopefully) bi-monthly meetings. From this large committee, would form sub-committees that would work on specific events/projects. Just because you are on the main committee does not mean that you have to be working on something at all times. Any member is welcome to come to any event and any committee meeting. Anyone with interest in Orthodoxy can be a "member". "

Here are some things I would like you to think about and be prepared to discuss for our meeting: 1) who our patron saint should be and why, 2) who our spiritual advisor(s) should be and why 3) what day of each month would be best for meetings 4) what your vision for OYA is, and 5) any projects/events you would like to see happen in the future.

This will be a fairly informal meeting, but I will be doing some things that will be kind of formal, just to keep the meeting efficient. I know meetings can get long and we want to get as much accomplished as we can, without taking all day.

Be sure you bring a notebook and pen/pencil! I will have agendas to hand out at the beginning of the meeting. If you have any questions, let me know!!

Canoe Trip

John sent out an e-mail with all the canoe trip details, so check for that. But briefly, some details are...
When: July 2
Time: 9:45 AM
Where: meeting at Holy Transfiguration, then carpooling to canoe place
Cost: $5.50 if you are sharing a canoe ($11 if you want your own)
RSVP by Saturday!!

Welcome back!

Just wanted to welcome back Stephenida and Anna Bauman! According to Anna they had a wonderful time in Alaska, but we are glad you are back here! :) Thank God for your safe travels.

Events and Dates

Sunday June 19: Kelly's Chrismation (see post)

Saturday July 2: Canoe trip/Committee Meeting (more info to come)

Sunday July 31: Luau on the Farm (see post)

Saturday and Sunday August 13-14: Camp out at Nezhla's (see post)

Luau on the Farm!

I said I would have another "shindig" and I am, so mark your calendar! It's going to be a Luau on the Farm!! :) Sunday, July 31st starting at 4 PM. Again, people are welcome to spend the night after it's all over. Bring your instruments, dancin' shoes, and loving heart!

Camp Out at Nezhla's!!!

Nezhla is going to be back in the state for a short time and while she's here she wants to have everyone over for a camp out! It will be August 13th-14th, so you have plenty of time to take off work and plan ahead! Nezhla lives in Nashville which is a little over an hour south of Indy. Her address is 2648 S Whitehorse Road, Nashville, IN 47448.

This is what Nezhla has to say about it: "It'll be a fun time where people can see each other again, socialize, swimming, etc. " There will be Vespers and Matins Sat. evening and church in Nashville Sunday morning. Everyone will camp out, but if you need special sleeping arrangements, just let Nezhla know.

You will need to bring camping gear (tent, sleeping bags, or bedding, bug spray, etc.), your favorite side dish and snacks (to help out with the food), bathing suit or trunks, whatever else you want to bring, and last but not least, a friendly spirit and a big smile! I'm sure Nezhla would appreciate knowing if you are coming so she can have an idea of how many and who to expect. Also, if you have any questions you can contact her. Her e-mail is nezhla85@yahoo.com. Hope you can make it!

Prayer Requests

Michael has asked me to post a prayer request for some of his friends. He wrote, "Please pray for David, Halyna, Stephen, and especially their son Paul who is in urgent need of healing. If you can please have your priest pray for them during Proskomide. Thank you all."

Also, we need to remember to keep Kelly in our prayers as she prepares to fully enter into the Orthodox Church. :) We love you Kelly!

June 19th

June 19th is a very big day! Not only is it Pentecost, but it is also the day Kelly will be chrismated! (Alleluia!) :D So, here's the scoop on it:

Where: Joy of All Who Sorrow in Indy (1516 N Delaware Ave. zip-46202)

When: Sunday, June 19th, starting at 8 AM (try to come early for good spots!)

What: Kelly's chrismation -> Divine Liturgy -> brunch/fellowship* -> Pentecost Picnic at 2 PM**
*After the brunch, those who are interested in planning the high school retreat this fall will be having a short meeting to get organized. If you are interested, be thinking about your schedule and any ideas you have. Those not interested can hang around the church or something... plans can be made at that time.

**The picnic will be at one of the parishioner's home. If you can, please bring a side dish to help with the food. Also, bring some play clothes and shoes because there will be games available!! (yay!:) Also, don't forget sunscreen and/or bug spray as it will be outside.

This would be a great event to bring a friend - someone who is interested in the church or that you want to introduce to the church for the first time. Chrismations are moving and beautiful and there will be many of us there so the fellowship will be abundant. I encourage everyone to make an effort to attend!!

Take care, keep praying for everyone and God bless! :)

Middle Eastern Festival

The Middle Eastern Festival was fun, despite the rain. Those of us who went were Anna Bauman, Elena and John Koen, myself and my brother John. The whole Koen family was there also, so it was nice to see Father John and Matuska Martha again, and meet Anna (used to be Koen) and her husband and adorable daughter! But also, the gyros were good, the music was lively and the dancing (yes we got to dance a little!) was fun! Afterward we had some nice fellowship at the Baumans. So, overall, it was very nice!

Just a note, I will be posting a list of events because a lot of things are coming up, so keep an eye out for that within the next two days. :) Take care everyone and God bless!
